Attic batt · Blown-in · Radiant barrier
Insulation. The layer your energy bill depends on.
Your roof keeps rain out. Insulation keeps cool air in. In the Central Valley, where summer attic heat reach 150+ degrees, proper insulation is the difference between a $200 energy bill. a $400 one. Econo Roofing installs, upgrades, and replaces attic insulation during roof projects or as a standalone service.
Insulation Types
The right insulation for your roof system.
Blown-In Fiberglass
Machine-blown loose fill that conforms around pipes, wires, and irregular joist spacing. R-2.5 per inch. Best for open attic floors. Fast install, non-combustible, does not settle as much as cellulose.
Best for: Standard attic upgrades
Blown-In Cellulose
Recycled paper fiber treated with borate fire retardant. R-3.7 per inch. Denser than fiberglass, better at reducing air infiltration. Settles 15-20% over time, so we install to compensate.
Best for: Older homes with air leaks
Spray Foam (Open & Closed Cell)
Expands on contact to seal every gap. Open-cell (R-3.6/inch) is cost-good for interior walls. Closed-cell (R-6.5/inch) adds structural rigidity and water barrier. Best for cathedral ceilings and sealed attic assemblies.
Best for: Cathedral ceilings, sealed attics
Radiant Barrier
Reflective aluminum sheet or spray-applied coating on the underside of roof decking. Blocks up to 97% of radiant heat transfer. In the Central Valley, a radiant barrier can drop attic heat by 20-30 degrees, reducing A/C workload significantly.
Best for: Central Valley homes (high solar load)
Why Combine
Insulation works best when paired with roofing.
Access Without Damage
During a roof replacement, the deck is exposed. We can inspect, remove old insulation, seal air leaks at the source, and install new insulation with full visibility. No attic crawling through tight spaces.
Title 24 Compliance
California needs Title 24 cool roof compliance for re-roofing projects. When insulation is part of the scope, we ensure both the roof surface, the attic insulation meet current energy code. One inspection, one permit, one contractor.
Cost Savings
Combining insulation with roof work saves 15-25% compared to separate projects. You avoid duplicate mobilization, scaffolding, and permit fees. Ask about our financing options to spread the cost.

Frequently asked
About insulation.
How much insulation does my Central Valley home need?
California Title 24 needs R-30 minimum in attics for new construction, R-38 suggested for our climate. Most homes built before 2010 have R-19 or less — adding insulation is the cheapest energy upgrade available.
What's the difference between batt and blown-in insulation?
Batt: pre-cut fiberglass rolls, easier to install in attics with clear access, R-13 to R-38. Blown-in: cellulose or fiberglass loose-fill, fills tight spaces and around obstructions, R-19 to R-60 depending on depth. Blown-in is usually better for attic top-up.
What does insulation upgrade cost?
Adding R-19 cellulose to a typical 1,800 sq ft attic: $1,200–$2,200. Full R-38 install with air sealing: $2,500–$4,500. Most projects pay back through energy savings in 4–7 years.
Will more attic insulation help with summer heat?
Significantly. The Central Valley's attic heat reach 130–150°F in summer. Proper insulation reduces ceiling heat transfer by 60–80%, lowering AC load 15–30%. Combined with attic ventilation upgrades, the impact compounds.
What's a radiant barrier?
A reflective foil layer installed on the underside of roof rafters that reflects radiant heat back out. Reduces attic heat 20–30°F, working with insulation rather than replacing it. Most cost-good in west-facing or sun-exposed homes.
Can attic insulation be added during a re-roof?
Yes — combining is good. We open the attic during decking inspection, blow in insulation while it's accessible, and close up before underlayment. Saves a separate insulation contractor visit.
A note from Mario
How we approach insulation.
The cheapest energy upgrade for a Central Valley home is attic insulation done right. Most homes are 30% under-insulated for our climate.
